About

Amanda Farough is a hot lil’ number immersed in design/development geekery and she runs this-here joint called violetminded.

We interrupt this regularly scheduled bio for some breaking news:

Most bios are BS.

You should never write your bio yourself.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk.

And this is not Amanda speaking, by the way. This is Kelly Diels, and I’m a writer and one of Amanda’s clients. Amanda designed my graphic identity and my website.

It is hot. It is pretty. It works.

And it was critical to launching my business.

Before I had Amanda – and I do “have” her, but fortunately for all of us who want hot websites, I’m willing to share – I had been working on my blog and my thus-far imaginary copywriting business for seven months.

In seven months, I hadn’t made a cent, and I was hesitant to really put myself out there because my virtual identity did not match who I was and what I had to offer.

And along came Amanda Farough.

Her geekery and intimate knowledge of all things tech assured me that my website would be safe in her hands. I was seduced by her design sense, but I committed to the project because of her.

I only work with people I like. And I like Amanda A LOT.

I like that she likes the hand-holding I require (when it comes to my site, I’m a control freak, design junkie, nervous nelly and tech-illiterate. In short, I’m a Nightmare Client).

I like that she’s responsive, intuitive, fast and giggly.

I like that she knows Wordpress and Thesis inside out and teaches me how to handle them, too.

I like that she has a process for extracting how I want my site to look and feel.

I like that creating my brand and my website was a collaboration between us.

And, omgoodness, I like how my site turned out.

Scratch that. I LOVE how my site turned out.

Like, intensely, passionately love it. After we launched my new blog, I would log in to my computer just to gaze upon the wonder that was my new site.

(I still do that.)

But that’s just the aesthetic. Let’s talk about the business results.

Within 26 days of the launch of my new brand and blog, I started making money.

Within two months, I had enough clients and revenue to quit my job.

And that is what happens when you work with a talented designer to develop a creative compelling visual identity. Having a brand, and a beautiful, sticky site shows the world that you are ready. It identifies you as a professional – and not just to your market, but to yourself.

That hesitancy I had, to really put myself out there and ask for business?

Disappeared.

Once Amanda built my new virtual home, I knew it was ready to receive guests.

Paying guests.

So of course I’m feverishly devoted to Amanda.

Amanda Farough is a terrific website designer and developer. I know, because I’m a (wildly satisfied) client. The graphic identity and wordpress site she developed for me transformed my business – and my life.

And I bet she can do that for your site, your brand, and your business, too.

Now back to our regularly scheduled bio:

About Amanda Farough, and Why We Should Work Together

Because I make it pretty and make it work.

Because I dig creative professionals. Like you.

Because I can take Thesis apart and put it back together, better than ever, blindfolded.

Because I can take a project from your brain, to paper, to Photoshop, and code it — all with a smile on my face (and yours, too).

Because we’ll have fun and we’ll get things done. I’m passionately geeky, and up(off)beat, religious about laughter but when it gets down to the nitty gritty details, I’m focused and well-organized.

Because I have a Bachelor in Awesomeness. Just kidding. My background is in Computer Science and Design.

Need more of the Qualifications Stuff? Here it is…

I’ve been working on websites since Geocities and Homestead were cool — I think I was 13. I got serious about design and code in 2004, when I started up my freelancing as a contractor under Techtrix Consulting Services in Kamloops, BC. After enrolling in the Computer Systems: Operations and Management Diploma at Thompson River University, I worked on some major projects at Syncrude Canada in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and NRI Distribution in Kamloops, BC. But I never lost my love of design, even amidst all the code. I began the Interactive Arts and Design program at Simon Fraser University in 2008 where I’m currently a part-time student, with lofty dreams of writing and designing video games. And oh yeah, I’ve got a solid list of satisfied customers and you should check out my portfolio. Please do.

PS. I’d love to work with you.
